Jubliee fever is gathering pace. At London's The Rib Room, this infusion of spirit has inspired a literal spirit infusion.

Bombay Sapphire expert mixologist Sam Carter has worked with five of the nation’s most creative people to invent the niftily-named ‘Ginbilee’ celebration. Florist Robbie Honey, interior designer David Carter, event designer Fiona Leahy, product designer Anna Bullus and art director Rhea Thierstein have each added a personal twist to the standard Gin & Tonic. I was delighted to discover that you need only very simple additions to take this popular tipple up a notch, and even the most novice of mixologists (a.k.a me) can recreate the concoctions.

Sam whipped up an example of each (the height from which he pours the gin is marvellously theatrical) and then invited his audience to taste. All were delicious, naturally, but my favourite was Robbie Honey’s Bombay Sapphire ‘Orange Blossom’ G&T Infusion. The fresh orange peel was refreshing while the orange blossom honey added a perfect hint of sweetness. Fiona Leahy’s was the prettiest though: her ‘Diamond Rose’ infusion was topped off with a freshly cut head of a rose.

Anyone can partake in the Ginbilee fun as Bombay Sapphire as The Rib Room are conducting masterclasses in the run up to the Jubilee. Attendees will learn how to make each of the five infusions - under the tutelage of the excellent Sam – and then have a go at creating their own. My own cocktail was a weird but wonderful mixture of Bombay Sapphire, tonic, ginger and lots of pepper slices. Not only was it colourful, it was practically one of my five-a-day.

The best part? The price of each masterclass is a reasonable and ingenious £19.52 in honour of Her Majesty’s coronation year. Cheers!

The Bombay Sapphire ‘Ginbilee’ masterclasses will be held on Saturday 12 May, Saturday 19 May and Saturday 26 May from 2.30pm-5pm (max. 10-12 people per class). To reserve a place, please call 020 7858 7250 or email
