My usual after work evening meal normally consists of whatever is quickest and easiest to cook. So when I went to a meal to celebrate new television series Tales from the Bush Larder the smorgasbord of exotic dishes that were laid before me were a midweek dining treat.

Tales from the Bush Larder, presented by Kiran Jethwa, takes viewers on a culinary adventure through the wilds of Kenya. The series focuses on the local produce and the people who grow them. Jethwa brings together the people and the produce to create a range of fantastic dishes during each episode.

Thankfully, feeling suitably hungry after watching the first episode, we were treated to a three course meal of Kenyan delights.
To start my guest and I chose the seared duck breast over a githeri tostada, red bean hoisin, served with "quackling" and a green mango scallion wrap, and my guest went for a terrine of smoked tuna with a crab mousse, over ugali two ways with a rocket horseradish pesto. Both dishes were delicious, but the incredibly succulent duck won first prize in the starters round.

For the main I opted for the Lake Victoria Tilipa (fish) with gnocchi, cherry tomatoes and capers. My guest went for what we decided was the most exciting dish of the evening, ostrich with black pudding, wrapped in pancetta and served with a port 'n' berry jus. The fish was delicious with the different flavors complementing the lightly flavored fish. But the ostrich, not beating about the bush, was really to die for. Taste wise it is similar to beef but the texture is different- in all honesty it needs to be tasted to be fully appreciated.

A dessert malindi which is similar in texture and taste to Turkish delight, over saffron shortbread with rosewater cream was delicious, providing a refreshing palette cleanser after a menu of heavy flavors.

After an evening experiencing the delights of Kenya, stepping out into a very chilly and snowy London evening was quite a shock to the system. I can't wait for the series to air so I can lose myself in all that Kenya has to offer.

Fox International Channels will air Tales from the Bush Larder later this year

Savile Row Style

Surely there has never before been such a varied display of suits on one step?

Saville Row style

Yesterday, right in the middle of London Collections: Men, I found myself at the regally splendid Spencer House in St. James's.

There the bespoke tailors of Savile Row, along with London's best shirt makers and hatters, presented the modern face of elegance. And gosh, did they do it in a dashing fashion!

Staged as a series of still-life sequences, the dapper models were found by fires in shooting coats, sat decadently at dinner in formal dinner suits and reading in the library in velvet.

Saville Row style

Anderson & Sheppard, Antony Sinclair, Bernard Weatherill, Davies and Sons, Dedge and Skinner, Ede and Ravenscourt, Edward Sexton, and Gieves and Hawkes were all represent, between them covering everything from white tie glamour to shooting wear.

So whether your chap is a discerning dandy or you just want a Downton-esque gent in your life, Savile Row is clearly still place to go.

Bustling with tourists, and at this time of year Christmas shoppers, Covent Garden wouldn't normally be top of the list for places to wind down. But down a quiet side road, in a converted Victorian warehouse, even in Covent Garden it is possible to escape the stresses of everyday life.

From the moment you walk through the doors of Thai Square Spa you are indulged by the luxurious and tranquil surroundings.
After my complimentary herbal tea and traditional floral foot soak, I opted for the Thai Square Signature wrap which claims to improve skin clarity whilst firming and toning. Carried out by a trained Thai therapist, after an hour of being massaged, scrubbed and moisturised with beautifully scented products I couldn't have felt any more relaxed. To the extent that I totally fell asleep- who would have thought it was so easy to doze off whilst wearing the oh so sexy paper knickers and covered in mud.
Awarded the highest accolade of 5 bubbles from the Good Spa Guide, Thai Square, which is one of the only spas to bring the traditional Thai experience to the UK, is sure to leave you feeling incredibly pampered and relaxed.

After my treatment, my skin felt beyond silky smooth and I walked out of the Thai Square Spa, into the winter night, with a delicious "I've just been pampered to death" glow.

Thai Square spar has: 14 treatment rooms, 5 Thai Massage rooms as well as other facilities. Herbs, flowers and roots are used to create a range of products that are dedicated to the wellbeing of the mind, body and soul.

Thai Square is pleased to announce the opening of 'Thai Square Spa City' in January 2013 which will be situated under The Indigo Hotel in Tower Hill, offering four treatment rooms as well as manicure & pedicure services.

All we want for Christmas... is Tara Starlet style

Here at The Lady we are huge fans of fabulous frocks. And, personally, there is nothing that delights me more than finding clothes that are made to fit an actual person rather than a mannequin (that doesn’t bend, or drink or eat, or dance...)

So last night at Tara Starlet’s #StarletXmas night I was in dress heaven.

Having been made over by Pretty Me Vintage – with sixties-style eyeliner flicks, a dash of siren-red lippy and a gravity-defying victory roll – I was let loose on Tara Starlet’s designs.

With a Martini Royale cocktail in one hand, and my Nelly heels on my feet, I worked my way through what is now my entire Christmas wish list.

And pose!And strike a pose!

I wear a lot of pencil skirts. And I mean A LOT. But I have never found any that fit quite as perfectly as the two I tried on from Tara Starlet. And it wasn’t just me. Fellow Young Lady About Towner Melonie Clarke agreed.

Tara Starlet is a family business, born out of a mother and daughter’s shared passion for the glory days of the 1940s and ‘50s. With designs inspired by the original Pin-up paintings and silver screen starlets like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe – the collection takes you back in time to the days long-gone where clothes were cherished until the elbows were worn and the buttons were lost.

And that’s precisely how long I will be keeping my Tara Starlet clothes. Having wiggled my way into the skirts (and the dresses, and the blouses, and...) my figure could not have been more flattered.

And as the party season descends upon us, it’s worth noting that Tara Starlet uses end of roll fabrics. This puts to good use what would otherwise be wasted, but (even more crucially in my eyes) this also means that the designs are often made in a selection of different fabrics with a limited amount of garments in each, so you won’t find hundreds of other women wearing the same thing!

So having worked my way through almost Tara Starlet’s entire range (I honestly believe there are few things more fun in life than dressing up in gorgeous garments while drinking cocktails) my Christmas wish list is now totally sorted. I think my husband’s credit card and Tara Starlet are going to be very good friends in 2013...
