The Jubilee is nearly upon us. Our specially-themed issue will be out this Friday (not to be missed) and this weekend I attended my first Diamond Jubilee celebration. "It's a wonderful Vintage Jubilee Jamboree" in London which proved to be a real old-fashioned knees up!

Taking place in two great locations near Kings Cross, I donned my fifties dress complete with full petticoat, and partied like it was 1952.

The day kicked off with a Festival of Britain party at a great real ale pub where we were greeted with Hendricks gin cocktails in dainty tea cups. I made sure to visit the pop up hair dressers - The Vanity Box - to transform my locks (Marilyn curls were the order of the day) and there was also a delightful cake stall selling cupcakes galore. Swing music was the back in track for the day so there was also lots of dancing!

The singing was another highlight of the day. John Barnes, an 82-year-old piano and ukulele playing performer, had the whole pub singing tunes reminiscent of the days of Pearly Kings and Queens. And with the words to each song held up on a large sheet there was no excuse to not join in on a verse of "My Old Man said Follow the Van" or "Old Bill Bailey."

The night-time festivities at The Water Rats Theatre featured swing DJs, a cabaret performance including burlesque by Folly Gosh and dance troupe The Strays, a Vivien of Holloway fashion show and live music from swing band Natty Congeroo and The Flames of Rhythm. But once again the best entertainment of the evening, in my opinion, came from the loveable John Barnes who got the crowd singing once again. By this point everyone had had few drinks so the crooning was all the louder!

After a truly fun filled day I cannot wait for the next "It's a wonderful vintage..." event. And luckily, creator Olivia Farnesy hinted that "It's a wonderful vintage... holiday", old style coaches and all, could be on the cards next! Now where did I put my Cliff Richard records...?
