It's safe to say when we heard that a fashion show was to be staged in the heart of the Buckingham Palace Gardens this summer, we were *pretty* excited!

And now we know a bit more about the planned Coronation Festival Catwalk Show we are even more excited.

Coronation Festival Catwalk Shows

Today we can reveal that a 400 seat raised catwalk, surrounded by a bed of flowers in the Buckingham Palace Gardens, will be the location for the series of unique fashion shows.

The exclusive shows will tell the story of British fashion and iconic style over the past sixty years, showcasing companies that have been awarded the prestigious Royal Warrant of Appointment.

There will be five catwalk shows for each day, a mix of four themes collectively paying tribute to the six varied decades since the Coronation of HM The Queen in 1953. Savile Row’s finest tailors including Gieves & Hawkes, Dege & Skinner, Henry Poole & Co and Johns & Pegg, plus tailors Benson & Clegg, Thresher & Glenny and Kent Haste Lachter will join fellow Royal Warrant holders DAKS, Austin Reed, Hunter Boots, Ettinger, John Lewis and Peter Jones to showcase their latest collections in this catwalk celebration of British style.

A few unlikely catwalk candidates may also find themselves creatively taking part in the shows including: fine china experts Caverswall, Roberts Radio, Bendicks Chocolates and celebrated food and drink experts Partridges, Valvona & Crolla and Charbonel Et Walker.

The catwalk will also feature specially commissioned pieces from contemporary London designer Joey Bevan who will take an original and creative approach to Royal Warrant holder products to show the wealth of companies and industry sectors that bear this Royal seal of approval. This will look to include dresses made from Jaguar Land Rover and Bentley car parts to origami paper dresses using materials from Talk Paper and Tom Smith c/o International Greetings, stunning designs using upholstery and fabrics from Hardy Minnis, and G.P and J Baker and dresses made from domestic electrical wires and Brinton Carpets.

We cannot WAIT!

The catwalk shows form just part of the daytime entertainment programme for the four day Coronation Festival (11 – 14 July) – a one off event hosted by the Royal Warrant Holders Association which will bring together over 200 Warrant holding companies to celebrate innovation, industry and excellence. Daytime tickets of £30 per person can still be purchased via www.coronationfestival.com

"A Libertine is unrestrained by convention. A free-spirited individual that ignores constraints defined by the larger society and whose thinking goes beyond mainstream idea".

Last night we were at The Club at The Ivy for the launch of Libertine, a new jewellery collection from fashion designer Giles Deacon.

Mixing Edwardian eccentricity with a punk attitude, the collection will be available from 3pm on Sunday at QVC (www.qvcuk.com), with prices ranging from £14 to £70.

Want a sneak peek? Oh here you go then...

Iconic British Brands Silver Cross and Aston Martin have teamed up to create what must be the most exclusive contemporary baby travel system in the world!

The Aston Martin Edition of the Silver Cross Surf will be available exclusively from Harrods for £2,000 - but we got to give it a whirl first  It looks incredibly sturdy and robust, but feels like air when pushed. In fact, we rather overshot and almost ended up falling over it when we gave it a spin!

Aston Martin Edition of the Silver Cross Surf

The aluminium wheels on the pram are modelled on the Aston Martin One-77 car, which sells for £1.2m - and the suede and leather used match interior of upmarket car.

Silver Cross are only manufacturing 800 of the model worldwide. Each comes with its own certificate of authenticity and an engraved brushed chrome plaque confirming that each pram is one of a limited edition.

Will you be getting one?

What do you get when you cross a stunning National Trust House with high glamour? The Anna Karenina Costume Exhibition of course.

Now open to the public, the London exhibition features the BAFTA-winning pieces worn by Keira Knightley in the film, created by designer Jacqueline Durran.

Anna Karenina

Ham House, in Richmond, was a key location used during the filming of Anna Karenina - and the exhibition will be open to the public until April 4.

The costumes have been won Best Costume Design at this year's BAFTA awards – but which was the designer’s favourite I ask her, having toured the house, the grounds and enjoyed a sneak preview of the exhibition?

‘The Grape coloured one, because it epitomises what we were trying to achieve with her costumes It has quite a stark dark silhouette and some fifties detailing, but I wanted it to be very simple and all about the silhouette.’

Anna Karenina

The costumes are not intended to be an accurate representation of a particular period of time. Indeed Anna’s costumes (Keira Knightley) are a combination of ‘high 1950s style set in the 1870s,’ explains Durran.

‘It was a representation of the past. In a sense it was entering another kind of world, because it’s not period. Anna Karenina can be anything. We didn’t make any accurate costumes they interpretations of the idea.’

The sheer scale of the production was the most challenging aspect of her work on this film, reveals Durran.

‘We made a lot of crowd costumes which you don’t usually do and there wasn’t a particularly big budget or crew,’ she confesses.

Anna Karenina

But what is next for the designer, who also worked on Atonement and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy?

‘A period about Turner,’ she says. But Durran – whose personal favourite fashion era is 1959 to 1961 - doesn’t only want to work on period dramas she tells me.

‘I like directors,’ she muses. ‘I like to meet someone and for them to give me a vision and for me to try and do that vision. I don’t want to always do 1870s films!’

Her vision for Anna Karenina was undeniably beautiful though. Let’s hope she returns there soon...

Anna Karenina is out on Blu-ray and DVD now. The Anna Karenina Costume Exhibition at Ham House is open until 4th April, www.nationaltrust.co.uk

Cocktails with Churchill

What do you picture when you think of Churchill? Most (unless, God forbid, you picture a Yorkshire-accented insurance dog) imagine an older man, war weary but wise, loved by his nation. Most also imagine the stout and rounded figure of a man well-acquainted with the delights of food and drink.

Many seem to forget that this portly PM was once a plucky young man. A new bar on Portman Square aims to capture the spirit of a younger Churchill, celebrating the more romantic but lesser known side of this eminent leader.

The bar’s intimate interior is a shrine to the sweet relationship between Churchill and the love of his life, wife Clementine. Their handwritten love notes are framed and hung discreetly on the walls, the bookshelves are filled with his’n’ hers books that the Churchills would have read, and grainy photos show the glamorous pair in their youth. There are also knitted animals quietly adorning the shelves, commemorating Churchill’s habit of putting one of his children’s soft toys on the spot where he’d removed a book, so he’d know where to return it.

Lest you think the bar too sentimental, it also has the elegant edge of a gentleman’s club. With muted tones of grey and gold, there are comfortable armchairs to relax in, and even a cigar fumigator in the corner in case you feel like channelling a true Churchill vibe. Outside on the terrace there is even a life-size bronze statue of Churchill sitting in one of the chairs, so you can enjoy a drink with him.

And enjoy a drink you shall. The bar’s cocktail menu is one of the most impressive in the capital (and, to be frank, we’ve sampled a lot). There are several inventive twists on the very British gin and tonic, including the perfectly bitter G A & P (gin, Aperol and plum bitters). The house cocktail Parliamentary Preseve is also one to savour: an intensely-flavoured mix of Chase Marmalade vodka and Campari is topped off with a spritz of orange bitters, creating a drink which is dangerously moreish. Fresh olives and other nibbles are served with your drinks, but you can also order bigger plates too. The quail Scotch eggs are a must-try.

Situated just a moment’s walk from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, the Churchill Bar and Terrace is a wonderful place to relax and chat.  In fact, melting into a cushioned chair with a colourful cocktail in hand, Churchill – young or old – begins to seem very glamorous indeed…
