£5 to win

Have you unknowingly been carrying around a small fortune in your purse?

Written by Amy Cosgrove
The new plastic £5 note which has been released in the UK this month have been selling for up to 160 times their value on eBay as collectors are keen to snap up the early additions of the note.

This is the first time that the Bank of England has printed a plastic note and a £20 version is due to enter circulation in 2020. The new notes have cost £70million to produce and each note will cost around 7p to print- not bad if you can sell it on for upwards of £200! The Polymer notes are claimed to be far stronger and durable than the paper originals, lasting up to five years in circulation in comparison to the current two years, the Plymouth Herald reported

If you want to find one of the golden notes you'll need to be on the look-out for an AA01 serial number, unfortunately, the Queen has been gifted the first and most valuable note but there are still 999,998 notes left in circulation which could make you a profit. If you're feeling charitable you could donate your £5 to charity as part of a new social media campaign.

If you haven't had any luck with £5 notes you can also check your 50p coins. A special 50p coin featuring Kew Gardens has been declared by the Royal Mint as the rarest in circulation. Only 210,000 of the coins were manufactured to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Gardens and they are now fetching upwards of £50.

Other rare coins currently in circulation include a dateless 20p, the 2012 Olympic games 50p and the Guy Fawkes £2.
