10 hotel spas for a January detox

January is the time for health and rejuvenation, the cleanse and feel good factor after the excess of Christmas. So from country mansions set in acres of parkland to contemporary getaways with sea views these are the hotels to head to for a little pampering and TLC. Delivering luxury, serenity and wellbeing in their own unique and different ways, each of these hotels provides an oasis from the buzz of the working week and the perfect way to start 2017. Here are 10 of Good Hotel Guide's top spa hotels.

Hartwell House, Aylesbury

Once home to the exiled King Louis XVIII of France in the 19th century, Hartwell House is owned by the National Trust and is a blissful place to stay. Quiet, decadent and luxurious, the spa itself sits within the hotel grounds in a separate building, but in equally grand style. Treatments are from Aromatherapy Associates and it even has its own spa cafe.

Chewton Glen, Hampshire

Chewton Glen has a wide reaching reputation for excellence on all levels, particularly in the spa. The country house hotel is surrounded by the splendour of the New Forest and has its own cookery school. Meanwhile, its award-winning spa has all the facilities for thorough relaxation including a magnificent hydrotherapy pool, a 17-metre ozone treated pool, multiple saunas and steam rooms, and more than 50 different therapies available using Natural Bisse and Ila skincare lines.

Calcot Manor, Gloucestershire

In a 14th century farmhouse where white glove service is par for the course, Calcot Manor is the perfect blend of welcoming warmth and luxury experience. Fresh, modern and rustic all at once, the food is exquisite and situated in a quiet corner of the grounds, close to the main house, is their charming, Cotswold perfect spa. Beautifully designed, there is a lavender-lined outdoor hot tub and beautiful Elemis treatments at the ready.

Bodysgallen Hall and Spa, Wales

An ancient mansion surrounded by meticulously kept gardens, Bodysgallen Hall and Spa in Wales is super friendly, super professional and welcoming, with original fireplaces, fresh flowers and leather-bound books in abundance. In amongst the ancient splendour however, is the spa, a relaxing environment with leisure facilities for the whole family and an array of spa treatments using the decadent Darphin line from Paris.

Isle of Eriska Hotel, Scotland

If you want total escapism the baronial mansion at the mouth of Loch Creran known as Isle of Eriska Hotel is the place to go. Complete with a Michelin Star restaurant and located on a private island, Isle of Eriska is blessed with the Stables Spa, delivering unique Scottish experiences. Set in the former stables building and accessed by a path through the Spa Garden it's a chance to experience an array of spa therapies using Ishga and ESPA products.

Cliveden House, Berkshire*

Expensive but worth every penny, that's the best way to describe Cliveden House. The history-rich Italianate mansion on the River Thames is all about beauty at every turn. Home of 350 years of power, politics and parties, the spectacular house and hotel is all about luxury, including their five star spa. The Walled Garden Spa is home to the very pool that sparked the notorious Profumo affair and is a Mecca of bubbling outdoor hot tubs and beautiful treatments using the Anne Semonin product line.

*Cliveden House will be closed until May 2017 due to a fire

Seaham Hall, Co. Durham

Seaham Hall Hotel

Once home to Lord Byron and Anne Isabella Milbanke, Seaham Hall stars contemporary design alongside a historic sense of gravitas and timeless style. The spa is a valuable part of the experience, where every detail is taken into consideration in a catalogue of facilities, and therapies are delivered with expertise using a combination of Ytsara, Ishga and Sundari products.

The Scarlet, Cornwall

An eco-friendly, low-tech hotel and spa, The Scarlet is famed for its style, its service and its spa. The location is spectacular, as is the nature of Cornwall and its rugged Poldark-esque vistas overlooking Mawgan Porth Bay. The spa itself is the sort of place people travel miles to visit. With its luxury tented treatment rooms lit by lanterns, quiet contemplative silence, and holistic wellbeing combining the wisdom of Ayurveda with a distinct Cornish twist. Using the Pai skincare line, their treatments are unique and individual. Eco has never felt so good.

Lime Wood, Hampshire

Stunning, super-hip and utterly serene, that's what you think about when you think about Lime Wood. The New Forest hotel is sophisticated, rustic and stylish all at once; a Regency townhouse that welcomes children and couples alike and, unlike many places, gets both variants absolutely right. The food is superb thanks to chefs Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder, the grounds are spectacular, and of course, the spa is a very special experience too. The Herb House Spa is dedicated to natural well-being and inspired by its forest surroundings. Amongst the facilities are a massive sauna and indoor hydro pool with forest views, a mud house, a steaming outdoor hot pool, eight spacious single treatment rooms using products from Bamford, VOYA, Tri-Dosha, Pai and Bamford Grooming Department.

The Royal Crescent Hotel and Spa, Bath

A luxurious hotel in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the UK, The Royal Crescent Hotel and Spa in Bath is all about sophisticated tranquility, historic architecture, timeless style and a really good afternoon tea. The five star hotel would not be complete without a spa to go with it, especially in this historic Roman stronghold, so The Spa & Bath House is a compulsory part of the experience. Complete with a relaxation pool, massage jets, saunas and steam rooms, the experience is topped off by treatments from British brand Elemental Herbology.
