Thai cuisine is a favourite of the #GourmetGirls (if you'd like to get involved or have your say in our foodie reviews, be sure to use that hashtag on Twitter, and tag @TheLadyMagazine!). The array of different flavours, spices makes for a yummy lunch or dinner selection.

With this in mind, we headed to Thai Silk in Southwark to sample some of their delicious offerings. Nestled down a side street just around the corner from Southwark station, the restaurant is large but cosy, and has gorgeous Thai interiors with plush reds, purples and golds. Next to the restaurant is the Thai Silk bar, where things get busy and exciting on a Friday night. There's even karaoke.

The menu was expansive, but it didn't take us long to decide on what we wanted to try. I opted for chicken massaman curry with potatoes, onions and peanuts, while my guest selected a Thai green curry. We ordered jasmine rice and sticky rice, and for sides: vegetable spring rolls, chicken satay, and deep fried prawn/pork parcels with sweet chilli sauce.

The service was very fast, and all the dishes came together at once. As my guest would agree, the curry was delightful. It had the right amount of spices, and the consistency was on point. As it was quite a big portion, too, it was certainly value for money.

The vegetable spring rolls and chicken satay with peanut dipping sauce were also tasty, however, we weren't as fond of the prawn/pork parcels. The inside of the parcel after taking a bite looked unlike meat, but perhaps this was a method in which it was cooked. It was slightly less flavoursome than the rest of the meal, so if we were to return, I probably wouldn't order it again.

Overall I enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the restaurant. I'd think I'd like to try more classic dishes from the menu, such as the pad Thai or creamy red curry. The cocktail menu also looked very inviting, but as it was a lunchtime review, we opted for soft drink. I'd certainly like to come back and try my hand at Friday night karaoke, though!
