Bollinger pairing dinner: Oblix at the Shard

Oblix, famed for its contemporary-casual dining on the 32rd floor of The Shard, have recently launched a series of decadent wine and champagne pairing dinners with renowned global brands.

Head chef Marcus Eaves has sourced premium ingredients from around the British Isles to create a series of seasonal five-course menus. Each dish is paired accordingly with a glass of wine or champagne from some of the world's finest vineyards.


The first of the pairing dinners began with iconic French champagne house Bollinger. Oblix's Head Wine Buyer Alastair England- who hosted the evening-was on hand not only to talk guests through dish pairing choices, but also to answer questions, provide facts and offer guests a chance to learn the history behind the brand.

Gourmet starting courses, ranging from crab and caviar baby gem tacos, lobster tempura and cured chalk stream trout were paired with Bollinger Special Cuvee NV served from a magnum. Main courses included Cornish red mullet and scallops, duck breast with truffle ricotta served with asparagus and jersey royal potatoes and grilled turbot, all paired accordingly with 2007 Grand Annee, RD 2002, and Rose NV. The evening's clear culinary winner was the veal rib, morsel mushroom and smoked potatoes, served with Bollinger La Cote Aux Enfants from 2013. The meal was not only delicious, but educational, as guests discussed their own preferences from the Bollinger selection and offered opinions on the pairings.

The evening drew to a very special close over dessert. A selection of Oblix cheeses was served alongside a vintage champagne from Bollinger's reserve cellar- a bottle of RD 1973 commissioned especially for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. This incredible touch of Bollinger history made the dinner feel one of a kind.

Reservations can be made for up to 8 guests, allocated across our shared Library Table in the restaurant. Please note that the full menu price will be required as a deposit.
