Brockencote Hall, near Kidderminster, is a striking Victorian manor house with a lovely lakeside setting and views to the Malvern Hills. It has 21 rooms, 70 acres of parkland, and a restaurant serving cuisine prepared using fresh ingredients from the kitchen garden and honey from the beehives in the grounds. The summer programme includes outdoor cinema and jazz picnics by the lake. Rooms cost from £255 per night including a seven-course tastingmenu dinner.


Middlethorpe Hall, North Yorkshire

This beautifully restored William III country house set in 20 acres of manicured gardens features carefully chosen antiques and fine paintings, a spa with an indoor swimming pool, spa bath, steam room and sauna. Dinner, bed and breakfast costs from £109 per person per night in May and June, including early-morning tea delivered to the room, full Yorkshire breakfast and a £43 per person allowance towards dinner.

Hampton Manor, Birmingham
A restyled Neo-Gothic mansion, marrying Victorian design details with comfortable, modern furnishings, Hampton Manor is surrounded by 45 acres of woodland in picturesque Hampton-in- Arden, 10 minutes from Birmingham. Eastwell Manor, Kent
Eastwell Manor country house and the 3,000-acre estate at the foot of the North Downs in Kent was home to Queen Victoria’s son Prince Alfred for 20 years. The hotel facilities include the Pavilion spa with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and two restaurants.
