This month, British Airways launches a new direct flight from Gatwick to San José, the capital of Costa Rica. If all you want to do on your holidays is just relax, British Airways Holidays offers seven nights at the 3.5-star Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa, in Guanacaste on the Pacific coast, from £719 per person, travelling between 11 May and 30 June. Classic trip
Wexas Travel’s 13-day Costa Rica Classic features coffeesampling at the Doka Estate on the slopes of Poás Volcano; you can watch leatherback turtles lay eggs in Tortuguero National Park (from July to October); explore lava fields in Arenal Volcano National Park; and spot the spectacular, multicoloured quetzals in the Monteverde cloud forest. Costa Rica has a host of new hotels, including Nammbú Beachfront Bungalows by Playa Carrillo on the Pacific coast, on the country’s Nicoya peninsula. Whale of a time
Voyages Jules Verne’s Whales And Wonders Of Costa Rica, from £1,745 per person, offers the chance to see a number of magnificent species such as humpback, pilot, Bryde’s, pseudo orca and false killer whale.
