Portrait Of The Artist at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace (4 November 2016 to 23 April 2017), will be the first-ever exhibition to focus on images of artists in the Royal Collection. It will feature self-portraits by worldrenowned painters including Lucian Freud and David Hockney, as well as representations by their friends and pupils. Spanning the 15th to the 21st centuries, it will also examine the role of monarchs in commissioning, collecting and displaying portraits of artists.

Vintage fashion
The Fashion On The Ration exhibition at the Imperial War Museum North, The Quays, Greater Manchester, from 27 May to 1 May next year, explores how fashion survived under rationing during the Second World War – for example, women made jewellery from airplane parts and mascara from boot polish, and used gas-mask holders as handbags. This great museum tells personal stories, through artefacts, film footage and mementoes, of those who have been affected by conflict.
