Europe triumphs in unexpected win at Ryder Cup
The Americans only had to get 4 and a half points yesterday to win the Ryder Cup. But a stunning comeback from the Europeans after a disappointing day on Saturday left the Americans trailing one point behind and the cup safely in European hands. As Martin Kaymer produced a five foot putt and Tiger Woods a bogey, European team captain Jose Maria Olazabal said, "To the 12 men of Europe, what you did out there was outstanding. All men die but not all men live and you made me feel alive again this week." The late Seve Ballesteros, a man who did a lot for the competition, was firmly on the minds of the European team seeing them play in his trademark navy blue and white on the final day. In a fitting tribute, Europe produced a win that's the best the Ryder Cup has seen from the team.

Mary Berry whips up a floral frenzy on the Great British Bake Off
You might be thinking this is a piece about Mary Berry's latest baked creation, but no. We're focussing on the floral bomber jacket she was sporting last week. With Paul Hollywood permanently in v-necks and James in his cardigans, the Bake Off is a fashion free zone but the 77 year old baking goddess has received praise for her jacket. Nick Grimshaw said she "looked dope" and a fashion writer for the Guardian (Charlie Porter) judged the four presenters and described Mary's outfit as "amazing". She has unwittingly become not only the queen of baking but the queen of style on the show with a Tumblr blog named "Mary Berry Biting Into Things" as a tribute to her never-ending elegance when eating crumbly pastry or soggy crusts.

Euromillions jackpot winner living the quiet life
The last winner of the Euromillions jackpot has been spotted not in a flashy car surrounded by diamonds, but back at work in his music shop, arriving in a modest Ford family car. Those who cast a knowing smile when Adrian Bayford said he'd carry on working after winning £148m will have to swallow those smiles as he's carried on breaking down boxes, working behind the till and even arriving early to open the shop. Despite his wife admitting to eyeing up a £60,000 Audi Q7, the couple have opted for a £17,000 car and have remained in their current home with their two children. They have received admiration for their lack of spending with some focussing on their celebratory meal which was a Dominos takeaway. The win saw them propelled to become 516th in the Sunday Times rich list, but they've clearly managed to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

For sale: Not Hogwarts but close enough
Fans of Harry Potter now have a chance to see the interior of the house JK Rowling wrote the last few books in, but they may be disappointed by the lack of memorabilia and magical items in the author's home. The eight bedroom mansion has been put on the market by Rowling after she and her family moved across Edinburgh to another mansion on the outskirts of the city. The estate agent handling the sale (Rettie and Co) have said they're not sure if the 'Rowling Effect' will push the price up and have admitted to being in "unchartered waters" with the sale. Abbotsford Park has been redecorated and is on the market for £2.25m, a far cry from the author's first homes as she started the Harry Potter series.

Fluffy animals may be the key to concentration
It's a known fact that people will always be easily distracted by cute animals on the internet, but a recent study has shown this may be a way to improve concentration levels. Scientists at Hiroshima University in Japan have discovered that people show higher levels of concentration after being shown pictures of puppies or kittens. Three groups of students were given different tasks, one of which was a game of Operation. After seeing the pictures, the students performed better and faster than before being shown the pictures. Another group that was shown cats instead of kittens and food images showed no change. The research paper said, "This finding suggests that viewing cute images makes participants behave more deliberately and perform tasks with greater time and care."
