British television crossing Atlantic with 7 International Emmy nominations
Shows including the new series of Absolutely Fabulous have been nominated for seven International Emmy awards, proving that our television isn't to be knocked. Alongside Ab Fab's nomination is Terry Pratchet's Choosing To Die, which is up for Best Documentary. It looked at the right to die issue from the viewpoint of the writer who is suffering from Altzheimer's and may choose to end his life. It was mentioned at the Television BAFTAs and Royal Television Society Awards earlier this year. Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror has been given a nomination as well as two Cbeebies programs. Glee creator Ryan Murphy will be hosting and a number of special awards are to be given to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the awards.

British screenwriter hired for 50 Shades adaptation
Best known for writing the short lived Terrra Nova, Kelly Marcel will now face a lot more fame as she has been chosen to pen the film adaptation of the bestseller, 50 Shades Of Gray after a three month selection process. The adaptation is being overseen by the team behind the Oscar winning The Social Network. With the full trilogy being planned by Universal, Marcel will have her work cut out for her if she is to be kept on for the full run. Novellist EL James has said she is "thrilled" by the decision after announcing it yesterday on Twitter. Other writers are less than pleased with Marcel being chosen, saying she ruined Terra Nova and do they really want the writer of a documentary about the making of Mary Poppins penning the erotic novel's script. Rumours are still rife as to who will be making up the cast...

Great British Bake Off to move to France
Forget sweet breads, gingerbread and victoria sponge, the Great British Bake Off is branching out into croissants, pastry and eclairs. Paul and Mary Berry will be replaced by a French chef and macaroon expert. But fear not, depite the British charm being given over to the French, it's still the BBC who are behind the production. You can't blame the producers for wanting to spread the best thing on television a bit, and they're really going for it with six other countries being given a run of the series. The French version will be filmed in an orangery rather than a marquee and the challenges will include intricate patisserie instead of lardy cakes. The series, named The Great Bake Off will be aired on the teenage channel M6 alongside French versions of The X Factor and Wife Swap. Judges are yet to be confirmed.

Tom Daley forgets Olympic synchro fail with junior win
Clearly Tom Daley has put the past behind him regarding the loss at the synchronised diving event during the Olympics. Alongside partner Jack Laugher, he has gone on to win at the junior championships in Adelaide in the 3m synchronised event. The pair finished a satsifying thirty points ahead of the Russian duo who took second place. Despite having a number of senior titles, Daley has never won a junior title and rarely competes on a springboard, but apprently it has worked for him. He certainly seems pleased after posting a picture of his medal on Twitter and tweeting "Jack Laugher and I are junior world champions on 3m synchro!!! Woop!". He will have another chance to add to his medal collection during the individual competition later this week.

Daredevil to test limits of humans in fastest skydive
Felix Baumgartner, an Austrian skydiver, is to test the limits of man by breaking the sykdive record and sound barrier during a stunt this afternoon. The 43 year old is known for jumping off skyscrapers but this jump involves an unmanned vehicle taking him to the limits of space before he puts his faith, and life, in the hands of science. Protected only by a thin suit and with less than 2% oxgygen in the air, he will not only try to breake the world record for the highest jump, but become the first person to survive whilst doing it. He said, "If something goes wrong the only thing that might help you is God. Because if you run out of luck, if you run out of skills, there is nothing left and you really have to hope he is not goiing to let you down." If all goes to plan, Felix will land safely back on Earth with two records ten minutes after jumping.
