Half of women are still working at the age of 60
According to official statistics, over 50 per cent of women are working well into their sixties highlighting the impact of the rising pension age on a generation of women who are having to wait longer than ever before they can retire. The problem has been exacerbated by the rock-bottom savings rates and poor company pensions as well as the additional burden of grown-up offspring who now struggle to get by without financial support.
Caroline Abrahams, from Age UK, said: 'People are living longer and generally in better health, so many are likely to want and able to carry on working.'

Taking omega-3 may not halt the decline in brainpower
Contrary to previous research American scientists believe that eating fish and nuts may not keep brains active or cut the risk of a stroke. The author of the report Eric Ammann said; 'There has been a lot of interest in omega-3s as a way to prevent the delay of cognitive decline, but unfortunately our study did not find a protective effect in older women.' However, researchers are not recommending people to change their diets as oily fish such as mackerel and salmon may halve the risk of rheumatoid arthritis.

British Airways first class lounge scores poorly for food hygiene and safety
The Concorde Room and First Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 5 has apparently been awarded a '2 out of 5' for food hygiene and safety placing the venue in the bottom ten per cent of all food establishments in England. The below par inspection could have been a result of a number of factors including bad refrigeration, food cross contamination, poor hand-washing, food rotation or temperature control. BaxterStorey and British Airways have apologised to customers and say they have been working on a plan to renovate the kitchens to increase standards. So far there hasn't been any reports of passengers falling ill and all the staff are being retrained in food hygiene skills.

American Universities target British sixth formers for places
Apparently, last year 9,000 students chose to study in the US as American institutions focus recruitment efforts in the UK. Experts believe that young people are considering these courses as UK university tuition fees have risen dramatically in the last few years with many charging £9,000 a year – three times the previous cost. Many of the institutions not only attend recruitment fairs but also arrange talks at British schools in order to reach as many pupils as possible. According to the Government tuitions fees are set to rise still further next year.

Prince Charles support prompts design of eco-friendly kitchens
The design of a new, lower priced British Standard range of cupboards came about after Charles was impressed with the kitchen in the model home built by Plain English for The Prince's Foundation for Building Community. The Prince was first impressed with the environmentally friendly home in the 2011 Ideal Home show and his remarks led the companyt to consider finding a way to bring the 'green' designs to a mass market. An entire kitchen costs about £5,000 and is available to buy on-line.
