Lord Lloyd-Webber Launches New Musical
Andrew Lloyd Webber launched his new musical, Stephen Ward, last night. It is due to open in December at the Aldwych Theatre.

The show details the 1960s Profumo affair, in which Stephen Ward was, according to Lloyd-Webber, made a 'scapegoat'.

John Profumo was forced to resign after he lied to Parliament about his affair with showgirl Christine Keeler. Stephen Ward, who lived with Keeler and introduced the infamous pair, was later sent to trial for living off immoral earnings. Three days after being found guilty, Ward committed suicide.

Lloyd-Webber said last night that Ward's life was a 'wonderful subject' for musical theatre.

Also present at the launch was Mandy Rice-Davies, a former showgirl and friend of Keeler's. She has been advising Lloyd-Webber throughout the musical's creation. She is played in the musical by actress Charlotte Blackledge.
Keeler has refused to be involved in the project.

Titanic Burial Photograph Uncovered for Auction
A photograph depicting the sea burial of the Titanic's victims is to be auctioned in Wiltshire. The photograph is expected to sell for as much as £5000.

The photograph was taken on board the recovery ship, the CS Mackay-Bennett on 15 April 1912. It is the first image to be seen of these post-Titanic sea-burials, a fate that met 166 of the 306 recovered bodies.

In the background of the photograph, piled up bodies can be seen awaiting burial while the ship's priest conducts the funeral service.

The photograph was uncovered by a relative of a crew member.

Portman Attacks Hollywood's Misguided Approach to Feminism
Diminutive Hollywood actress Natalie Portman has spoken out against Hollywood's misconception of femininity.
Best known for her Oscar-winning performance in Black Swan, Portman criticised Hollywood for portraying inspirational women as macho and tough. She argues that if a woman has to adopt traditionally male characteristics, it is not a victory for feminism.

Referring to characters such as Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft, Portman argues "that's not feminist, that's macho". She wants to see a greater breadth of emotion in all characters, male and female. In order to be human, Portman argues, characters should have a wide emotional capacity that includes weakness and vulnerability.

World Class Artists To Exhibit In Primary Schools
Some of Britain's most famous paintings will be hung on the walls of primary schools.

Work by artists including Monet, Lowry, and Turner will be exhibited in classrooms across the country for one day each. The idea behind the project is to introduce children to art and to inspire their own creativity.

The scheme, organised by BBC Your Paintings, includes 27 works of art worth a total of £14m. Each will be accompanied by curators and security guards.

The paintings will appear in primary schools across the UK from 1 – 18 October.

Prince Philip Returns to Royal Duties
Prince Philip took part in his first official engagement yesterday since his abdominal surgery in June.

With the aid of stick, the Prince visited volunteers restoring a rare bog on the Sandringham estate.

Aside from the stick, which his aides insist is not a permanent feature, Prince Philip looked in perfect health. He chatted animatedly with volunteers and watched the restoration work, presenting volunteers with certificates acknowledging their involvement.

As of next week, Prince Philip will return full time to his royal engagements, having taken two months off to recuperate from surgery.
