Vidal Sasson dies, age 84
Vidal Sasson revolutionised hairdressing in the sixties with his creation of the five point bob. Working with such stars as Jean Shrimpton and Mary Quant, who famously names him the “Chanel of hair”, his simplistic styling and wash and go attitude marked a great change in women’s styling. Born in Hammersmith, London in 1928 Sasson went on to become a hairdresser’s apprentice, which laid the foundation for his groundbreaking career. Sasson became one of the most influential hairdressers of his time and leaves behind a great legacy along with his schooling academy and styling products line.

Austin Reed survey results has complied the “Mr Perfect” requirements list
A survey of 2,000 British women has been carried out by clothing store Austin Reed in order to find what exactly makes a modern day Prince Charming. The list has thirty items listed which make for an ideal man, from requirements such as “6ft tall”, “wants a family” “non-smoker” “holds a driving license” to more specific ideals such as “ gets ready in 17 minutes” “wears smart, jeans, shirt and a V neck jumper” “drives an Audi” and “rings his mother regularly”. It seems all women wish for a sensitive, intelligent, well dressed, “£48,000 a year” earner but also someone to have a giggle with as you “watch the soaps”.

Bird lover revives chaffinch with mobile app
Leon Timms, a tree surgeon, discovered an injured and stunned chaffinch outside of his house in Oxford. As an avid bird lover, Timms was keen to help the creature in any way he could. He brought the bird into his house and began to stroke the chest of the injured animal. Timms, who owned a birdcall app on his phone, then proceeded to play the sound of a chaffinch’s call hoping it may prompt a response from the bird. Much to Timms amazement the bird opened his eyes and became animated. Timms then placed the bird back into a tree in his garden where the bird grasped its bearings and flew away.

Brad Pitt to be the first male face of Chanel No 5
The famous French fashion house has announced that Brad Pitt is to be the first ever male face of the house’s most famous scent, Chanel No 5. Following in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Kidman, Catherine Denevue and Audrey Tautou, Brad Pitt shall feature in the new No 5 advertisement. This has prompting speculation that the fashion house is either adapting to a more gender-neutral way of thinking or is employing a very clever marketing ploy.

Lichtenstein’s work pre pop art to feature in the Tate Modern
Lichtenstein is famously known for his comic book approach to art in works such as “Whaam!” and “Drowning Girl”. However, the Tate Modern is to exhibit work of Lichtenstein created before pop art was really developed. A decade before pop art, Lichtenstein worked on nudes and Chinese landscape works that are all to feature in the gallery next year. Organised by the Art Institute of Chicago and Tate Modern, the two galleries will bring together over 120 works of the artist showing his journey through many genres of art.
