Gentlemanly Commandments
Country Life Magazine has redefined the notion of Gentlemanliness for the modern day ahead of its new Gentleman of the Year Award. Mark Hedges, Editor of the magazine, claims that "being a gentleman is Britain's greatest export to the world" and the "highest compliment". The new criteria lists several non-negotiable factors for the modern man; he must in no uncertain terms own a cat, tweet or own brightly coloured trousers. The list of desirable credentials was compiled by authors and journalists including Jeremy Paxman, and includes the following; he must always be on time and make love on his elbows. Joan Collins insisted, "He must never wear brown shoes at night" and Jilly Cooper advised, he should always "drive you home after he has been to bed with you." Amongst the panel it was decided that David Attenborough, Ben Fogle and Steven Gerrard serve as good examples of the modern gentleman.

Battersea Power Station Chimneys to be demolished and rebuilt
Battersea Power Station, the iconic London bulwark, is to have its chimneys demolished and rebuilt. The process will take place in preparation for the £8 Million redevelopment that will see the power station home to 250 new state of the art apartments and 200 shops. The chimneys which reach 103m in height are structurally unsound and are beginning to crumble causing a danger to the public say English Heritage. The Chimneys should be rebuilt by 2016. Sir Giles Gilbert Scott designed the power station with construction beginning in 1937. Since the station ceased its power production in the 1980s, the building has lay vacant and proposals for its redevelopment have been far reaching and polarised.

Happy Birthday Shakespeare!
Although the Bard's actual birthday is unknown, it is traditionally celebrated on the 23rd April, and so today we wish him a Happy 450th Birthday. To mark the occasion, the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford upon Avon will be hosting a firework display on the roof of the theatre after the evening performance of Henry VI Part I. His influence is evident in all corners of our everyday life, these well-known fraises are all courtesy of the bard himself; "Eaten out of house and home", "in a pickle" and "the world's mine oyster". Next Year, the British Council, is planning a major international programme of events to mark the 400th anniversary of his death in 2016.

Revival of Olde English Names
The website Netmums conducted a survey of 3,961 parents into naming patterns, it has emerged that there is a new trend for names from the medieval and middle ages. Whether by chance or inspired by the Game of Thrones series, names such as Kendra, Elvina, Alfred and Peyton are popular again for the first time in 350 years. Interesting, 76% of parents said that they believed that children's names influence how teachers respond to them. The survey also highlighted that names including Jayden, Tyler, Bailey and Crystal were all names which teachers felt might indicate the child would misbehave.

Summer Bank Holiday to be shifted to Winter
Government Wellbeing Officers are contemplating moving one of the May Bank Holidays to December in a bid to make people happier. The Think Tank feels that given people an additional day off in the run up to Christmas would be beneficial for everyone and would help alleviate stress. After the Bank Holiday in August there is not another bank holiday for another four months. Plans would see the National Holidays spread throughout the year, as the two May bank holiday breaks follow in short succession directly after Easter.
