Cat on Matt: 11 May

This week, Eric responds to concerns about pictures of dogs wearing knitwear, and has a shocking confession

Written by Eric
So, as Official The Lady Magazine Readers' Champion™ I must report that a few of my – well, the magazine's – lovely readers have written in to say that they were upset to see a spread of dogs dressed up in knitwear (27 April issue). They were concerned that it was an affront to their doggie dignity.

Well, it had me in stitches (sorry). After all, anything that makes a pooch look silly gets my purr of approval.

In fact, I have a confession to make: it was me who put it in the magazine. Not Sam, the Features Lady. Nor Carolyn, the Deputy Lady. Not even The Man. But me. All me.

You see, there was a little soiree on the Tuesday evening the edition was sent to the printers – and I saw an opportunity. So while everyone else was chatting away over glasses of chilled pink wine and handfuls of peanuts, I whipped out the original feature and replaced it with the silliest dog pictures I could find on the Interweb. Simple. And terribly satisfying.

The Man, of course, was furious. He, like many of you, is rather fond of dogs, and likes to put lots of lovely things about them in the magazine. But if I'm ever to get a bigger column, what can I do? I have to take on the opposition.

Besides, if Coco (who is often seen wearing a pair of knitted antlers at Christmas) is anything to go by, dogs love that sort of thing. Indeed, on page 28 of the 4 May issue, you'll even see some doing yoga – with the help of a little computer wizardry.

I rest my case.

Miaow for now!
