Autumnal hair colours to opt for

Katrina Schollenberger speaks to Lisa Shepherd, brand ambassador for PRO:VOKE haircare and colour queen on Channel 4’s 10 Years Younger, to discuss all things autumn hair colours!

I know a lot of women, including myself, seek a new colour, cut or general change to our hair as the seasons change. What are the top hair colour trends to opt for this fall 2016?
Although summer is almost over, it's now when I really start to work against the grain in the hair colour. We're not governed of course, but, it's this time of year that I tend to take my client's hair tones lighter or warmer, instead of the traditional darker shades people used to go for in the winter months.

Liquid-Blonde-smallThe hair is totally "worn out" from the summer months, so relieve it from a heavy work out and opt for a more subtle boost of colour with an easy to use, toning shampoo. In terms of colour trends, now's the time to go a deep honey, autumnal blonde. To get the multi-tonal, natural blonde shades use PRO:VOKE Liquid Blonde Colour Activating Shampoo (£4,99, 200ml, Boots), every other wash and allow the golden pigment to instantly boost your natural highlights that may have dulled over summer, giving the hair a balayage effect. Easy to use and reliable, as it works in just one wash!

Have there been any recent examples of public figures donning these colours?

Every public figure who has is currently boasting caramel balayage, is now either starting to ramp it up or cool it right down. But, the crucial learning behind any toning decision is to not let your balayage grow out too much, as it can make your lovely locks look instantly and unbelievably flat, dull and ageing."

Public figures with honey blonde balayage are Rosie Huntington Whitely, Kate, Beckinsale and Sofia Vergara.

For the less bold-what are the best subtle autumn colour changes?
In recent months, we have seen a huge rise in temporary, non-committal water washes. There is also washing and or glazing, which last about 6-8 washes – we've noticed people want that flexibility nowadays, so don't want to be fixed to a one colour look.

For those who are after a subtly colour change, the PRO:VOKE haircare family have that covered. Their Colour Activating/Brightening Shampoos offer a great 'at-home' Brightening-Shampoo-150ml-smallcleansing and toning service to your hair, helping to boost your blonde in one wash. Whether you're looking for a subtle change in depth in blonde, or brighter white shade of platinum, PRO:VOKE hair the products to suit whatever your desired blonde tone.

What are the best products to maintain these colours?
To boost the caramel/golden pigments use PRO:VOKE Liquid Blonde Colour Activating Shampoo to help highlight multitonal shades and add glitz, glam and shimmer. To cool your blonde tone down, cleanse your hair with PRO:VOKE Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo twice a week– the violet pigment will instantly lift any brassy tones or yellowing.

What are the colours to avoid during the cooler months and why?
Ah this tricky, as colour isn't based on any seasonal aspect, it's still no matter what time of year, totally based around skin tone.

Any tips on autumnal cut and style trends for 2016?
I have seen and felt a phenomenal rise of the bottle blonde again, as well as re lifting balayage roots, blonde or "light". It is just simply at lot kinder to skin full stop, but what kind of light/blonde is the question and it's so crucial to get right.
