"What a mop": Baby Owl's Unusual Playmate
Whether cleaning-time, nap-time or play-time, there is one baby owl that can always rely on his new friend.
Lightning, a two month old Siberian eagle owl, was born in captivity, and has been cared for by the Screech Owl Sanctuary in Newquay, Cornwall.
Whenever the tiny owl leaves his cage, he makes a be-line for the mop, which, with its' similar off-grey colouring and fluffy, bedraggled looks, makes for an amiable playmate. Despite having a number of cuddly toys, Lightning will always play with the mop, and insists on helping whenever workers at the sanctuary start mopping the floor.

Exhibition Marking Queen's 60th Anniversary Will Have Hand-coloured Sketch by Hartnell as Centrepiece
The Queen's 60th anniversary will be celebrated this summer with a special exhibition at Buckingham Palace. The event will display a spectacular selection of the dress, uniform and robes worn by the royals. Whilst a number of paintings will be displayed alongside the garments, it is British courtier Norman Hartnell's hand-coloured image of the Queen that will take centre-stage.

The exhibition, which is the largest-ever concerning the Coronation will coincide with the annual Summer Opening 2012 of Buckingham Palace, and will transform the Palace Ballroom into a recreation of the atmospheric Coronation.

Don't Look Down! A Man in Maryland Charges People £15 for a Drive across Terrifying Bridge in Maryland
A man in Maryland has found an unusual opportunity to cash in, by offering people a ride across one of the world's scariest bridges in their own cars.
The William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge, known as Bay Bridge, runs to nearly five miles long and stands at 186 at its highest point. It connects Maryland's eastern and western shores, and is set in Chespeake Bay.
The area is regularly subject to violent storms, and commuters and travellers dread the drive across the terrifying bridge. In bad weather, it is sometimes impossible to see shore from the middle of the bridge.
Alex Robinson, the entrepreneurial man who decided to give locals peace of mind by driving their vehicles for them, said business is currently booming, over the Memorial Weekend. His enterprise is doing so well, that he has started enlisting the help of family members, and he claims to have nearly 6000 people using his service.

Bosnian Shepherd Kills Bear with Bare Hands
A 48-year-old man from Bosnia and Herzgovina has reportedly killed a bear with his bare hands, after it attacked him when attending his flock.
Despite having an axe near at hand, Blazo Grkovic had no chance of using it, and instead gave the beast a 'bear hug' and then strangled it.
The shepherd didn't get a way totally unscathed, and suffered numerous wounds. The brown bear tried to bite him, and Grkovic told reporters that "At one moment the bear grasped my hand and I choked it by the throat with the other hand until the animal fell down."
Grkovic is currently in hospital, where doctors say he will remain for a week.

Mexican Archaeologists Discover Nearly 5000 Cave Paintings
Archaeologists have uncovered nearly 5000 cave paintings in Burgos, Mexico.
The inscriptions have been found on 11 different sites, and total to 4926 images. The paintings depict humans fishing and hunting, and also display animals such as deer, lizards and centipedes.
The archaeologists have been unable to date the paintings, but they hope to take some samples of the red, white, black and yellow pigmentation that has been used to create the sketches. There are also clues amongst the drawings, such as an image of an atlatl, a Hispanic weapon used for hunting.
The paintings are thought to have been made by at least three groups of hunter-gatherers.
