Scotland is welcoming a wave of new hotels and holiday homes this year. Here are eight of the best.

Gleneagles Townhouse, Edinburgh
The famous Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire now has a city cousin: Gleneagles Townhouse. Discreetly positioned on St Andrew Square in a former Bank of Scotland building, it is the city’s most luxurious hotel and members’ club.

The Bracken Hide Hotel, Isle of Skye
One of the most highly-anticipated hotel launches in the country is the justopened The Bracken Hide Hotel. It’s a four-star wilderness resort with luxury cabins, a wild-swimming pool, saunas, a whisky bar and a restaurant that serves locally sourced and seasonal dishes.

The Hoxton, Edinburgh
Another hotel in the international hip hotel chain that started in London’s Shoreditch in the early 2000s. Located in Haymarket, it is due to open later this year.

Schloss Roxburghe, Scottish Borders
Formerly owned by the Duke of Roxburghe, the historic estate and its championship golf course have been transformed by the multinational hotel giant Hyatt, becoming its first Destination by Hyatt hotel in the UK.

100 Princes Street, Edinburgh
The Red Carnation hotels group has transformed what was the Royal Overseas League clubhouse into a magical boutique property inspired by Scottish explorers. It is scheduled to open in October.

The W Hotel is a part of the ongoing retail and residential development of St James Quarter, at the east end of the New Town. The 12-storey hotel is in a dramatic circular building by Jestico + Whiles and Allan Murray Architects. It is due to open this winter and will surely become a city landmark.
