Hunter 486

Hunter 486

50 Great Cumberland Place,

Marble Arch, London

One of the best parts of doing restaurant reviews for #GourmetGirls is the places, areas and establishments you get to experience. There are so many parts of London I've really never seen before the series started, and equally, lots of places I've had on my 'to-do' or 'to-eat' list that I can now check off.

With that said, the Gourmet Girls were recently invited to dine at Hunter 486 at The Arch London, a boutique luxury hotel in Marble Arch. It's located right off of the end of the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, and rooms start at about £200. In fact, Madonna's town house is located just across the road from The Arch. The hotel is unmistakably opulent, but still has a cosy air about it. When we arrived, we were given a tour of the premises, having a wonder around the Martini Library, function rooms, junior suites, and the state of the art gym. The hotel offers contemporary interiors with lots of patterned pillows, glass tables, floor lamps and modern art adorning the walls. Although not grand in space, if I was in town for a few days, I'd definitely consider booking my accommodation at The Arch.

My guest and I headed to Hunter 486 after our tour to sample their 'best of British' inspired menu, where we were also to try different wines with our dishes paired by the restaurant. We started by relaxing in the drinks lounge adjacent to the dining area, sipping a peach bellini and a mojito and nibbling on homemade crisps topped with a lemon zest. The crisps were extremely moreish, which excited me for our mains.

When our table was ready, we headed over to a booth in the middle of the restaurant with comfortable plush sofa seating. The kitchen, with a big wood fire oven, was in plain sight so we could see the staff preparing meals, and opposite that was the restaurant's bar with an array of colourful bottles on display.

I started my meal with mushroom consommé with truffle tortellini, my guest opted for marinated tuna with pickled baby vegetables. The consommé was delightful, it had a nice temperature and good mix of flavours from chive to carrot to mushroom. We nibbled on homemade bread and sipped our first wine pairing before ordering our mains: I went with Rose County 28 day aged rib eye, French fries, grilled mushrooms and béarnaise sauce, my guest tried the 28 day aged Flat Iron steak with French fries, grilled mushrooms with peppercorn sauce.

The steak was very succulent and grilled to a nice medium-well, and actually came with a herb crusted tomato as opposed to grilled mushrooms. We were offered a red wine pairing to complement our steaks, however, we opted for white instead as red doesn't suit our tastes. The béarnaise sauce was a nice touch, and although I finished the steak, I didn't manage to eat all the fries (we had to save room for dessert, of course).

For our last course, paired with a fruity, sweet dessert wine (if not maybe a little too sweet), my guest and I shared the warm chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream and peanut brittle. The fondant oozed with molten chocolate and the salted caramel ice cream was a fantastic cold contrast.

The service was exceptional and we were very well looked after. My guest and I stayed an extra half an hour after our meal had finished just to chat in the nice environment. Highly recommended!
