Home Remedy: Hay Fever

Written by Sof McVeigh
On the school run (lucky enough to be a walk) I was stopped by a mother clutching the hand of her little one with streaming eyes and raw red nose – desperate for some ideas for hay fever help. The homeopathic way of helping is twofold: firstly, symptom relief, so you can get through the day, and secondly, a longer-term approach to try to get to the root of it all, which really needs to be done by a homeopath.

In terms of symptom relief, homeopathy has quite specific remedies – for mainly itchy or runny eyes, try euphrasia (pictured), eyebright, homeopathically, or herbally as drops; or if you have an itchy palate, mouth and nose, try wyethia. Other ones to look out for are Allium cepa, red onion, for streaming eyes and runny nose, sabadilla for intense sneezing and arundo for tickly nose and ears.

If you're not sure exactly what remedy to try, call a homeopathic pharmacy, such as: Ainsworths: 020-7935 5330, or Helios: 01892-536393, and you will get good advice.
